A little while ago, I had the amazing opportunity to once again shoot the current Kaba Modern team (hip hop dance crew based a UC Irvine that also had members representing the crew on MTV’s, America’s Best Dance Crew).
Shooting Kaba Modern is always fun because of the great people on the team – each and every one of them works very hard to make the shoot a success. I also love how they want to bring concepts and theme into their shoots as well. This year was a mafia theme and they had everything from guns to long cigarette holders. It was great getting to shoot some of the same people I have shot in previous years but it’s always exciting to meet and shoot the new members. Although they all say they are so awkward in front of the camera and have no idea what they’re doing, they have to be lying because they always come out looking great (and they all seem to have a lot of fun as opposed to being overly nervous). I love seeing the team grow as dancers, individuals, and seeing how different they are at these shoots once they are veterans and start killing it in front of the camera.
Aside from the themed look, we usually shoot a more personal, casual look as well.
Huge thanks again to the team for having me! You can view all the photos from the shoot on Facebook.

As many of you know, I love photographing dancers so it was a no-brainer when the talented designer Joey Thao asked me to photograph a collection of fantastic dancers for his brand, Ingenious Fashion.
IF’s pieces are unique and funky yet easy to move in and are body conscious – things that every dancer looks for, especially when it comes to auditioning in LA. It was such a treat working with Joey (as always), Mindii, and the talented dancers (Karen, Kasey, Natalie, Ragon, and Amber). Dancers have a different awareness of movement and their body than models which is why it’s always interesting and fun to shoot with them. We really wanted them to bring their own dance styles into this shoot since each piece is as different as each dancer is.

Had a lot of fun shooting Poreotics (MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew Season 5 champions).
While they have been going with the “robotic” theme for a while, these guys really wanted to showcase their HUGE personalities for this shoot. They are funny guys with tons of energy and I wanted to bring that out as well as their individual, quirky personalities.
You can see some behind the scenes photos here on facebook!
These guys are continuing to work hard so keep a watch on the crazy things they have been doing:

Big thanks to Danny and Jenny for your guidance, support, and styling during the shoot.
Also a huge thanks to my assistant Jerrel for being the best assistant as usual. 🙂
S2K, or Style 2 Kill, is a new all-female dance project that encompasses many styles of dance.
They have an awesome roster of ridiculously talented ladies and it was great getting to work with a group of girl dancers (since recently I’ve been shooting lots of male dance crews).
I was super excited about the concept that Janice came up with. We decided to go with a multi-bird theme – matching the personalities of each girl in the group into a type of bird (eagles, peacocks, and robins). Hikari and Janice put together a perfect team together and planned out the shoot super well. AMAZING job to the hairstylists, Jasmine Chang and Marshall Bang, for their hard work – I was amazed at how much you two did in such a short period of time. So much planning and hard work was put into this shoot so I’m glad everything ended up being pretty amazing.

Eagles (Yuri, Cindy, Katie, Savannah)
Peacocks (Aakriti, Amy, Dana, Hikari)
Robins (Jolene, Janice, Juli, Karen)
Thank you girls for being so easy and fun to work with!
And thank you Deyo for filming the shoot! See the video from the shoot here:
And a big thank you to Kenny for assisting me for the day (making sure I had water and cough drops since I was sick).

I actually went to the same college as one of the owners of Fresher, Scott. It’s always awesome to see other people doing what they love and collaborating with other people who are doing the same.
