As many of you know, I love photographing dancers so it was a no-brainer when the talented designer Joey Thao asked me to photograph a collection of fantastic dancers for his brand, Ingenious Fashion.
IF’s pieces are unique and funky yet easy to move in and are body conscious – things that every dancer looks for, especially when it comes to auditioning in LA. It was such a treat working with Joey (as always), Mindii, and the talented dancers (Karen, Kasey, Natalie, Ragon, and Amber). Dancers have a different awareness of movement and their body than models which is why it’s always interesting and fun to shoot with them. We really wanted them to bring their own dance styles into this shoot since each piece is as different as each dancer is.
You can see more photos from the shoot on Facebook.

There are 2 sweet things that go hand-in-hand in life, cakes & Miso from Miso Bakes.
If you follow my work, you know I’ve worked with this talented girl before. You may also know that I have a huge sweet tooth and Miso Bakes never fails to satisfy my sweet tooth like no one else. blog to get a glimpse of her and check out her gorgeous cakes!
These are some cakes I shot a while back and they are definitely some of my favorites by her.
This post is a bit overdue, but…
One of my dear friends is a pâtissière and runs Miso Bakes. She is extremely hardworking and even more talented. Her cake designs are some of the best that I have ever seen (and I’m obsessed with cakes). She is skilled and sweet so you can only imagine how excited I was when she emailed me telling me that one of her creations was to be in Martha Stewart Weddings! Although she’s humble and say it’s undeserved, I think she deserved every bit of it. I feel blessed that she has faith in me and my work and always feel so lucky when she asks me to shoot her cakes.
You can read her post about her Lemon & Mint cake being on Martha Stewart Weddings. Like her, I grew up watching Martha Stewart on TV (seriously – ask my mom about it). I always loved being super domestic – cooking, DIY household things, gardening, etc. so it meant so much more to me that Stella asked me to shoot her cake for Martha Stewart Weddings. You can read the article and look at the photos here in The Brides Guide.
This cake looks so fresh and summery and is both modern and retro. Be sure to follow Miso Bakes on her cake adventures and see what other amazing things she creates: Blog / Facebook
PS: I cannot wait for the day when she makes my wedding cake (and I’m not even engaged yet).
Had an opportunity to collaborate again with the talented pâtissier, Stella of Miso Bakes.
I’ve worked with her on a couple of other shoots and this time we went along with an elegant wedding theme with a gorgeous purple cake!
Miso Bakes has been steadily growing a following on her blog and it’s great to see all the amazing creations she posts and her insights on life as she grows and follows her dreams of being a top pastry chef. She is an amazing individual and I can’t wait to see where she goes!

Worked again with the super talented Courtney Chiang for her Fall/Winter 2011 line.
You ran away and lost yourself in forest glades and shadowy brooks. The shine of your hair and the glint in your eyes—it was the last I saw, before nature’s spirit whisked you away. But with your individualist irreverence and capricious dreams,
I knew not to search. So revel in that amorous freedom, separate from our chaste and restrict lives. Cast off your burdens, and celebrate the vibrancy of the earth, the dulcet breaths of the wind. Dance. Sing. Create…
You ran away, and I would have run with you.
(From Courtney’s website describing the collection. Pretty much sums it up perfectly.)
Had such an amazing team. Thank you to everyone involved!

Worked on a look book for new LA up-and-coming designer, Courtney Chiang.
The shoot was originally slated to be outdoors but with talks of a storm we decided to shoot in studio instead (but, of course, the rain never came that day). I was still so amazed with each piece of this collection even thought I generally knew beforehand what everything looked like. Everything was so elegant and I loved the combination of fabrics (leather and chiffon). She made accessories for the shoot as well as a bunch of paper laquer flowers for the set! That is talent.
A big thanks to the talent who made this such a success.
