BFF

15 May

I haven’t been updating as much recently because 1) I was sick for a long time and 2) my best friend and love is deploying to Afghanistan. Everything has sort of been last minute and hectic for the past month and I’m just trying to go along with it all.

While it was more of an extended break that I didn’t anticipate (didn’t expect getting sick or a deployment), I wanted to enjoy the last days/hours/minutes with someone I care so much about since he will be gone until January. Although we’ve probably spent more time apart than together since I’ve known the guy, he is undeniably my best friend. People always ask me if I’m fine with my boyfriend deploying. Yeah, I’m fine with my boyfriend deploying. I don’t need to be holding someone’s hand all day long or having someone to automatically take along with to weddings or parties. I’m not worried about the relationship deteriorating. While it’s a little sad waking up without him or not being able to say “I love you” every night, it’s not the worst part of it. The hard part isn’t the boyfriend part – it’s the best friend part. Experiencing things that I know he would’ve enjoyed as well, the unconditional emotional support even when I’m not being girlfriend-y, the bickering without consequence, and, above all, the fact I can’t bombard him with photos of stupid shit all day long. A lot of my closest and best friends are spread across the world but it never gets easier to see another one leave.

One of my/our closest friends, Aimee, decided to take some photos of us as a birthday present to me. This was actually before we found out he’d be deploying but I’m glad we did it since he’ll be gone for a while. Thank you, Aimee, for the great photos and fun day in downtown LA!!

Do me a favor and keep Kenny in your prayers and send lots of positive thoughts while he’s deployed!

So, is it January yet??

Channel(s) Promo

16 Feb

Channel(s) is a new up-and-coming band (think indie/folk) who have great potential and tons of personality. They recorded some live demos (check them out here) and are currently working on getting their EP together.

Went with something simple and clean that would really showcase who they are for this first promo shoot.

Channels – Recording

10 Jan

Spent a couple of days at the beginning of the new year with Channels, a folk/indie trio band in LA.
They’ve been working on writing and tracking their EP. After seeing all the long hours of recording, I can’t wait to hear the final versions!

The Bay

3 Jan

Went on a mini-roadtrips of sorts with Kenny right before the new year. Drove up to the Bay – visited Lemoore, San Jose, Half Moon Bay, and San Francisco. Spent most of the time eating and shopping as well as catching up with old friends. Congrats to JJ & Ashley who surprised us with the news that they have a lovely baby on the way! ❤

It made me happy that we went on a random detour to Half Moon Bay since I’ve never been there before. So here are pics from that leg of the trip:

It also has newly become 2012. I’m really excited for this new year and all that it will bring. I’m hoping for lots of shooting and adventures as well as continuing to work with Instant Noodles Crew. Here’s to a great new year!

S2K

21 Dec

S2K, or Style 2 Kill, is a new all-female dance project that encompasses many styles of dance.
They have an awesome roster of ridiculously talented ladies and it was great getting to work with a group of girl dancers (since recently I’ve been shooting lots of male dance crews).

I was super excited about the concept that Janice came up with. We decided to go with a multi-bird theme – matching the personalities of each girl in the group into a type of bird (eagles, peacocks, and robins). Hikari and Janice put together a perfect team together and planned out the shoot super well. AMAZING job to the hairstylists, Jasmine Chang and Marshall Bang, for their hard work – I was amazed at how much you two did in such a short period of time. So much planning and hard work was put into this shoot so I’m glad everything ended up being pretty amazing.

Thank you girls for being so easy and fun to work with!

And thank you Deyo for filming the shoot! See the video from the shoot here:

And a big thank you to Kenny for assisting me for the day (making sure I had water and cough drops since I was sick).
