Baby on Board!

26 Nov

I clearly remember the phone call that Kenny and I received one evening while we were driving in SF from our dear friends, Joseph and Ashley, telling us that they were expecting! I was so excited for them. It’s insane at how they do things so unexpectedly yet it all feels so perfect. I remember getting a phone call from them several years earlier telling us to meet them in San Diego because they were getting married the next day and needed witnesses. And now we got a call saying they need godparents. ❤

As Ashley’s tummy grew, Kenny and I made a trip up to visit them (they live about 3 hours away from us) so I can take some photos for them as a gift. The beautiful baby boy, Jae-sun Bayani, was born a couple of months ago and I cannot wait to see him and take photos of him!

The Bay

3 Jan

Went on a mini-roadtrips of sorts with Kenny right before the new year. Drove up to the Bay – visited Lemoore, San Jose, Half Moon Bay, and San Francisco. Spent most of the time eating and shopping as well as catching up with old friends. Congrats to JJ & Ashley who surprised us with the news that they have a lovely baby on the way! ❤

It made me happy that we went on a random detour to Half Moon Bay since I’ve never been there before. So here are pics from that leg of the trip:

It also has newly become 2012. I’m really excited for this new year and all that it will bring. I’m hoping for lots of shooting and adventures as well as continuing to work with Instant Noodles Crew. Here’s to a great new year!

The Bay

28 Oct

Went up to the Bay area this past weekend (San Jose, San Mateo, San Francisco, and then down to Lemoore). The weekend was full of seeing friends but also full of rain. 😦

I didn’t take my SLR with me this trip because my shoot that I had planned had to be cancelled due to all the rain so I just figured I’d try to make it a relaxing trip. However, the new iPhone 4 camera is pretty amazing as well as the Cross Process app so I spent most of the weekend having fun with that.

Sylvia G Photography - San JoseSan Jose:
Poor House Bistro: Alysa and Bobby took me to Poor House Bistro on Friday night. Poor Bistro House is what they describe as a “New Orleans joint.” A place where you can enjoy live (very loud) jazz music and amazing soul food and drinks. The music here was great – they had a guy killing it on the harmonica. I had a Po boy sandwich and it was SO good. Their cajun fries were seasoned super well.
That second photo is just of the creepiest building ever at San Jose State University.

Sylvia G Photography - San Mateo San Mateo:
I spent most of my time in San Mateo eating.
Copenhagen Bakery & Cafe:  While walking around Burlingame, Cheryl pointed out that Copenhagen Bakery has amazing desserts so I had to get something. We got custard puffs which were HUGE and super good but very sweet.
Cafe Grillades: Had time to kill and it was pouring and I really wanted hot chocolate so we went to Cafe Grillades in San Bruno. Their hot chocolate had a really unique flavor and was not as sweet as the typical (but good). Shared a spinach and brie crepe which was pretty good. I’m more of a fan of dessert crepes, though. :p

Brightest | Portraits

3 May

A little bit ago I went up to Lemoore and was set on shooting some photos using hot lights after seeing this D&G ad in a magazine a couple months back. Luckily, Kenny is always down to model and he not only has hot lights, but had an empty garage (thanks Kenny!).

I wanted it to be pretty dark so I only used one light and a reflector for these. I don’t know when I started to become a sucker for lens flare, but these were definitely my favorite from the bunch. It was a quick shoot, but shooting in a small garage with all the doors closed with hot lights sucked some. I LOVE how the grain of the guitar came out, though. 🙂

On a different note, I think I will be changing up my blog in the near future to something that looks a little better and that I can customize more to better fit what I need. So keep an eye out for that! If you have any recommendations for what I should do, leave a comment!

We’re way too hot for this city | Portraits in Lemoore

18 Mar

When I visited Lemoore Kenny planned to do a fun shoot with his roommate Joseph, Joseph’s gf Ashley, and myself. He found a great field behind the hospital he works at. While everyone says Lemoore is super boring since it’s in the middle of nowhere, I was excited to do the shoot because 1) there is nowhere in LA that looks like this and 2) I never have pictures taken of me (and when they are, I rarely like what I look like).

Of course, I couldn’t resist taking my camera and butting in to do photos as well. It was a great opportunity for me to shoot somewhere different and the total opposite of urban LA. Kenny styled the shoot (very well, I might add). I love how they turned out!

Sylvia G PhotographyMy favorite group shot. Whenever I take pictures in fields I always end up having to use a tripod. Weird.

Kenny & SylviaJJ took this (pretty awesome for not taking photos ever on an SLR).
This is the shot that Kenny really wanted to get from the shoot. Worked out!

Thanks for such an amazing, fun shoot! And thank you to Kenny, Ashley, and JJ for such a great time in Lemoore! I wasn’t bored for one second. 🙂

Also, good luck to JJ who is getting deployed at the beginning of April! It was great getting to hang out and do this shoot before you left.

Kenny on Drums | Music

15 Mar

Of course when I visited Kenny I couldn’t resist shooting him while he practiced drumming (you probably remember him from the Take Cover shoot a while back). The shoot was a spur-of-the-moment one, but he wanted something moody.

Shot again using ambient light and wanted to go for something a little different so I shot some with a cropped frame lens on full frame settings. With the shadows I think it came out pretty cool.

This boy is an extremely talented musician and songwriter and his drums are beautiful. It was fun getting to shoot someone in action and I got a drumming lesson after. (:
